Our Two Year Anniversary and 2017 Plans
First things first, we owe a big thank you to you for helping us get here!
We can’t believe it has been two years since we opened the doors to our little vintage crafting haven.
We planned to lounge around drinking coffee, eating cake and sewing to our hearts content...
...we were in for a shock!
We couldn’t believe the incredible support we had from the local and sewing community, you flocked in bringing along with you all your ideas, experiences and inspirations and we loved listening to all your crafting tales. At first though, we tried to do as much as we could to implement everyone’s suggestions until we were very tired (images of Sue mopping the floors at midnight!) and slightly stressed at the growing office demands, especially with the launch of the website (amazing but time consuming!).
Not that we would change the last two years for anything, we have loved hosting parties, workshops, events and ‘Crafternoon Teas’. We can honestly say, nothing compares to seeing someone walk through the door wanting to learn a new skill and then witnessing their journey from crafting novice to wearing their own handmade outfit, or sharing pictures of gifts they have made for family and friends. We love seeing the sense of pride and accomplishment that comes with making something yourself, and knowing we have helped someone get there.
That being said, with the sheer amount of things we have tried to accomplish over the last couples of years, there have had to be some changes and tough decisions in order to continue driving the business in the right direction. We love our little café area and we have scaled back our menu in the last twelve months so it can truly be what we always wanted, a sociable area for luxury coffee, tea and cake while you roam the shop or chat to other like-minded crafters.
We receive a lovely reminder of how important this area is on a Friday morning when our coffee and crochet group meet. It’s a joyful, relaxing and welcoming group of ladies who eat, drink and swap crochet tales while completing their own projects and helping one another along the way.
Our workshops have also evolved to meet demand. Our beginners classes are still extremely popular but we also now consider the ‘journey’ our students go on when we plan the class schedule, which we have given a lot of thought to in our Sewing School. This means from learning the basics of a sewing machine, to moving on to some simple home sewing or dressmaking techniques and then progressing to pattern drafting or garment construction; we develop our classes to help you at each step of your sewing journey.
So finally, to 2017. If you have managed to visit us in the last few weeks you will see we made some major changes to the shop before reopening in January. This has provided some much needed space for new product lines arriving in the coming weeks and tons more room for fabric and yarn, yay! We also have new classes being developed which will be released throughout the year (including one involving a recent, very large delivery of overlockers!).
Our next big undertaking, which we have been promising for ages and is now, finally able to begin, is populating our online shop. We are going to be adding all our fabric to the website, along with exclusive kits and haberdashery items very soon. We also have some tutorials planned which we are hoping to share with you soon so please leave your comments below if there are any techniques you would like to see featured and any ideas for future blogs or classes that you would find interesting or helpful.
We hope you are as excited about 2017 as we are and can join us on our ‘journey’ to a (mostly) hand-made year!
